Basic Information on Scholarships and Grant Programs
Based on Financial Need
Need-based financial aid and scholarships are available to students whose families cannot afford to pay for college. To apply, students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other forms as required by the college or university (CSS profile).
Based on Merit
Merit scholarships are awarded to students who excel academically or demonstrate a talent/skill in a specific area such as art, athletics, drama, music, or other areas valued by the college or university. Demonstration of financial need for these funds is not required. The scholarships available at each college vary. The college catalog and admissions office are your best sources for information on the merit-based scholarships available at a particular institution.
Other Scholarships and Grants:
Certain scholarships are available that are not based on financial need, abilities, or talents. Instead, they may be based on the student's place of residence or other factors.

SAT Fee Waivers:
If you are a high school junior or senior in the United States, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territories who cannot afford to pay the test fees, you can apply for a fee waiver through your school counselor. Your guidance counselor will share these guidelines with you. You can go to www.collegeboard.com for more details about eligibility. For example, you are eligible for consideration for fee waivers if you are an American citizen or a foreign national testing in the United States and you participate in the Federal free and Reduced Lunch/ National School Lunch Program or meet the financial eligibility guidelines for fee waivers.
You can receive up to four fee waivers (two for SAT, two for Subject Tests) to cover both your junior and senior years. SAT fee waivers cover the test fee only, and cannot be transferred from one test date to another. Whether you last took the SAT your junior year or senior year, if you registered with a fee waiver, you should qualify to waive up to four college application fees.
College Application Fee Waiver:
Students who use SAT fee waivers who plan to enter college are eligible to receive up to four (4) Request for Waiver of College Application Fee forms. These forms notify participating colleges that you have participated in the SAT Program Fee-Waiver Service and request that colleges waive their application fees.
