TRUE ID: A RETREAT FOR MS AND HS STUDENTS COMING MARCH 2-3, 2012
Hello BCA Middle School and High School Parents!
Your Campus Ministry staff is excited to announce our upcoming True ID Retreat March 2nd and 3rd at BCA. True ID will begin Friday, March 2nd , with two sessions during the school day and an evening session from 6:00 – 9:30 pm. Saturday, March 3rd there will be a 9:00 am – 12:30 pm session. A fantastic time of games, snacks, worship and instruction is planned! We have invited Media Talk to lead our sessions; this is an organization with a great track record for helping students work through media choices and influences as they relate to identity and a student’s future. CJ and Shelly Hitz, a young couple who are wonderfully engaging with much expertise in this area, will lead the main sessions. Cathy Moffett has selected college students to lead small groups.
Content: In the context of the Friday and Saturday sessions and small group discussion, students will hear about the power of media messages, their influence on identity, the decisions that shape their future and how to view these messages with discernment. Saturday morning brings divided sessions for girls and guys on issues that are specific to each. These sessions will address the grave dangers of many issues including pornography and the cultural mindset regarding sexual expression. Sixth grade students will not participate in these sessions. They will have separate sessions for girls and guys and small group discussion targeted toward building a healthy foundation for media choices during this time.
It is our desire to provide wisdom and protection to students from a biblical model in an engaging and fun experience about some very serious influences in their daily lives. Media Talk speaks to Christian School Students and churches on a regular basis. You can find them on the web at www.mediatalk101.org.
True ID Session for Parents: At 8:00 Friday night, we will show excerpts from a very informative documentary produced by Media Talk entitled Captivated, followed by a session for parents led by CJ Hitz. This will give parents the opportunity to engage students at home with greater understanding of this incredibly powerful set of experiences our digitally savvy students are inundated with daily.
Parental permission is needed for students to attend the sessions.
