BCA Mission Burlington Christian Academy's two-fold mission is 1) to provide students an excellent academic education, and 2) to disciple students in the Christian faith and biblical worldview. Through the intentional integration of academics and faith, we seek to equip students with knowledge, skills, and biblical principles for successful living. Within our loving and nurturing learning environment, we strive to make a significant difference in a child's life so that each child can grow to be the person Christ intends him/her to be.
BCA Vision Burlington Christian Academy seeks to guide hearts, inspire minds, and shape the lives of young students through a challenging academic education, which is grounded in the essentials of the Christian faith.
BCA History Burlington Christian Academy was established through the work of business leaders and clergy in Alamance County in 1978 as an interdenominational Christian school. That Fall, the school opened with three faculty members and 25 students. Burlington Assembly of God has provided oversight of the school. Since that time BCA has grown to over 680 students with 70 faculty and staff members. BCA's students represent approximately 150 churches in the community with the same denominational diversity represented by our faculty and staff. As the largest private school in Alamance County, we have students attending from Guilford, Orange, Caswell, and Alamance County. Over the years BCA has built four educational facilities which house our Preschool, Elementary, Middle and High School students. Our newest addition, a "state of the art" gymnasium with classrooms was just completed in August 2007.
Educational Philosophy Burlington Christian Academy is an interdenominational Christian school that embraces historic evangelical Christianity as revealed in the Scriptures. We seek to provide a comprehensive elementary, middle, and high school education through a rigorous academic program within the context of a Christ-centered worldview. Central to the learning process is the integration of both faith and academics that ultimately leads to the development of a Christian mind.
The basis of our educational philosophy is grounded in certain academic assumptions. We believe that our students should learn the material presented in the curriculum for his/her grade level. Each student should also gain a thorough comprehension and command of the fundamental core classes as well as processes used in communicating and dealing with others, such as reading, writing, speaking, listening, and mathematics. Further, we seek to develop within each child independent and critical thought, a positive self-image, self-discipline, an awareness of the culture in which we live, expertise in educational technology, and an appreciation of aesthetic values.
BCA’s educational philosophy is also rooted in particular theological assumptions.
We believe that God is self-existent and seeks a personal relationship with all people. We maintain that He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. Further, we assert that God has made Himself known to humanity through His creation, through the written revelation of the Scriptures, and through the person of His son, Jesus Christ. With respect to our view of man, we believe that man was created in God’s image; however, through willful rebellion against God’s standards of righteousness, man fell, and became alienated from God. Through the sacrificial and atoning death of Christ Jesus, God provided the means of reconciliation and restoration. We believe that the basis for right living and ethics is found in God himself and is revealed to man in Scripture. We therefore maintain that Scripture is essential in teaching and guiding young minds to make wise choices in daily living.
At BCA we strive for an educational program which supports our students in reaching their full academic and individual potential. Ultimately, as students grow in their academic understanding and application of God’s truth in their lives, they will fulfill God’s highest purpose for man: knowing Him and living rightly in their family, church, community, and world.
Interdenominational Christian School We have students representing approximately 150 churches in the community including Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Nazarene, Wesleyan, Catholic, Church of Christ, Pentecostal, Lutheran, Episcopal, Seventh Day Adventist, Assembly of God, etc.
As a Christian school, BCA instructs the essentials of the Christian faith through daily devotions, chapel programs, Spiritual Emphasis Week, scripture memorization, and a variety of mission projects. Our certified Christian teachers daily model virtues, behaviors, and attitudes that reinforce responsible Christian living. Our students are nurtured biblically through a curriculum that disciples them and grounds them in the essentials of the Christian faith.
Sports Program BCA has sports teams playing in the Triad Christian Conference which include basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, golf, baseball, and cheerleading.
Highlights BCA has received the Exemplary School Program Award from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) due to our work in critical thinking with Thinking Maps. We were one of thirty-eight (38) schools nationwide to receive such an award. We have also earned dual accreditation with ACSI and SACS. There are only a handful of schools in the state with dual accreditation such as ours. In 2002 BCA launched Accelerated Reader, continued the implementation of Thinking Maps in K-10, and trained our faculty in Write From the Beginning and Write for the Future for school wide use. We have broadened our abilities to serve special needs students through the Resource Services Program and currently have two Resource teachers. Our curriculum is under continuous review as each subject becomes the focus of study during a five year cycle.
End of Year Test Scores (California Achievement Test) Each year our students in 1st grade through 9th grade take the California Achievement Test (CAT). Last year's standardized test results (2006/07) indicate that our students score significantly above the national average and significantly above grade level.
